It’s the one thing that we all face and I think that we could all agree that it’s one feeling that no one wants to keep around. There are few things worse than feeling completely unsure of yourself or feeling as though you have lost your path or purpose. As someone that has battled with insecurity on several different levels, I thought that it would be worthwhile to share a few of my favorite scriptures that help to keep it at bay:
When My Thoughts are Negative
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
When I Feel Unworthy or ‘Less Than’
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
When I Need a Reminder that God Looks Beyond the Superficial
1 Samuel 16:7
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
When I Try to Compare Myself or My Journey to Everyone Else
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
When I Need to be Reminded of the Source of My Insecurity
1 Peter 5:8
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
The only remedy for insecurity is to remind yourself of the truth. Never lose sight of who you truly are. Not who the world says you are, not even who you think you are. Anchor yourself in the identity that Christ has given you. You are a child of the King that is destined for great things. Whenever you need a reminder, pull out these 5 scriptures to reset and recalibrate.
